About this special issue

Precision nutrition and precision medicine address disease management and prevention through a holistic approach that integrates endogenous biological factors—such as phenotype, epigenotype, metabolic status, gut microbiota, transcriptome and metabolome—with exogenous exposures including diet, physical activity, lifestyle, emotions, medications and pollution. Computational tools and artificial intelligence facilitate a comprehensive analysis of these factors, enabling recommendations grounded in clinical and biological interpretation.

Although liver and kidney diseases differ in pathophysiology, they share key drivers such as metabolic dysregulation and inflammation, making them promising targets for precision strategies. In hepatology, precision nutrition can tailor dietary interventions to slow progression of MASLD and cirrhosis. In nephrology, precision medicine enhances risk stratification, early detection of renal decline and optimization of immunosuppressive regimens.

This special issue invites original articles and systematic reviews that explore these approaches across the full spectrum of disease management—from prevention to prognosis. Clinical trials and experimental model studies are also considered. The goal is to deepen mechanistic understanding and accelerate the translation of precision solutions into clinical practice.
